Sonia Ali is a writer, editor, and cultural worker based in Los Angeles and is the Assistant Director at Active Cultures. She was previously Managing Editor at the Los Angeles Review of Books as well as the Assistant Director of the LARB Publishing Workshop. Prior, she served as Editor and Literary Programs Manager for Mizna, a critical platform for contemporary literature, film, art, and cultural production centering the work of Arab and Southwest Asian and North African artists, and has served on the organizing committee for the annual Portland Zine Symposium, coordinated the RAWI+Mizna 6th National Gathering, organized WET HOT ARAB AMERICAN SUMMER, the first-of-its-kind week long workshop for Arab American writers in poetry, fiction, and screenwriting, and was a 2018 LARB Publishing Workshop Fellow. She is a 2016 Voices of Our Nations Arts Foundation (VONA) alumni. Her work can be found in Electric Literature, Oregon Humanities magazine, and more. She received a BA in English and Creative Writing from Portland State University in 2013.
